Jess offers Japanese lessons to students of all ages and abilities, from beginners’ through to degree-level and beyond. Jess has lived in Japan for a total of 24 months, studying, working and volunteering across the country. She has appeared several times on Japanese television and has led drama and English workshops in schools and universities nationwide.

Jess holds JLPT Level 1 and studied Japanese at the University of Cambridge (BA Double First-class) and at Doshisha University, Kyoto. Japanese is a challenging language and, having learned from scratch as an adult, Jess is deeply familiar with the difficulties faced by students. Her lessons are designed specifically to help learners overcome these challenges and get to grips with the foundations of Japanese grammar.

One of the major issues for learners is that most of the textbooks on the market skip over the intricacies of the language. For this reason, Jess has written comprehensive, original textbooks for her Japanese students. At present, there are three main textbooks: beginners, intermediate to advanced, GCSE.

Use of these textbooks allows:

  • students to follow a smooth pathway to progress from whatever their starting point may be.

  • materials to be edited and adapted to suit each student’s needs.

  • lessons to be paired with a range of multi-media sources (for use in online sessions).

  • students studying for graded examinations to feel fully supported. There is currently no official GCSE Japanese textbook (Pearson Edexcel) so the GCSE collection is particularly important. Focusing on grammar, vocabulary and the five set themes, the GCSE textbook allows students to feel more secure in their study, and confident that they have covered all the necessary elements for exam success.

“I’VE TRIED VARIOUS TUTORS FOR DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES OVER THE YEARS… AND JESS IS DEFINITELY THE BEST TUTOR I’VE EVER HAD.

JESS’ SESSIONS ALWAYS FEEL LIKE CATCHING UP WITH A FRIEND, BUT I WALK AWAY WITH ALL THE INFORMATION I WANTED TO KNOW. SHE TRULY IS THE DEFINITION OF A ‘SENSEI.’

I COULDN’T RECOMMEND JESS ENOUGH. THANK YOU JESS!”
