ADADEMIC SUPPORT

GENERAL, TARGETED and EARLY YEARS

Jess has been working as a specialist academic tutor since 2012, across a range of disciplines. Informed by her BA and MA study, professional performance work, a Licentiate to teach from the Royal Academy of Music, and two decades working in childcare settings and with young people, Jess occupies a unique space in the tutoring and coaching field.

General
Academic sessions are available for students from pre-school age upwards, with a particular focus on supporting non-native English speakers. Jess offers comprehensive support in English, Maths, Science, Humanities and Languages (Spanish, French, Japanese, Latin) from KS1 through KS3 level. Sessions can be conducted in English, Japanese or Spanish.

EFL
Jess began teaching English as a Foreign Language in 2012 in Japan and has since also worked with students from China, Spain, France, Czech Republic, Poland, Turkey, Israel, Ukraine, Russia and Brazil. For older learners, Jess incorporates elements of self-confidence and presentation skills into her English classes, emphasising the importance of effective communication skills. Younger learners benefit from a focus on reading and exploring classic English-language stories and poems.

University Entrance
Jess also provides university entrance coaching sessions for students wishing to apply to Oxbridge (general, collegiate and subject-specific) or to East Asian language and culture programmes at other institutions, as well as support for applicants to drama schools and performing arts courses. Previous students have been successful in their applications to Cambridge, Oxford, Leeds, Manchester, SOAS, ArtsEd and Royal Academy of Music.

Early Years
Jess grew up in a home that functioned as an early years and childcare centre. She spent evenings and summers supporting and supervising younger children, taking on increasing levels of responsibility over the years. These experiences were foundational to her current approach to teaching: understanding the importance of connecting with younger and older children as unique individuals, and listening to their wants and needs to allow them a sense of agency in sessions. Jess has worked with children as young as 3, from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, both online and in-person.
